Write Club and Summer Experience at Wellington College
June 23rd-28th
Write Club, the hands–on literacy programme which introduces writers and broadcasters to school students, is set to stage its biggest event yet in the spectacular surroundings of Wellington College.
Guests including Adam Rutherford, Michael Holding, Ashley Walters, Anthony Horowitz, James Brabazon, Ramita Navai, Bettany Hughes, Jonathan Kaplan, Andrew Mueller, Dan Llewellyn Hall, Vic Goddard and Anthony Seldon will conduct lessons and workshops with 80 state school students at Wellington for the school’s annual Summer Experience programme.
Wellington’s Summer Experience was launched last year, and a number of the state school students who attended have since been accepted to competitive independent sixth form colleges, several with bursaries and financial assistance. Write Club is now part of Wellington’s Summer Experience, and will also be a monthly event at Wellington for the next year.
Write Club was founded by Chloe Combi at Villiers High School in Southall, West London, in 2010, in the hope of bringing the opportunities enjoyed by students at independent schools into the state system. Write Club has had wonderful support from luminaries from the arts, journalism, politics, film, television and theatre, who bring their skills and knowledge in the form of workshops, lessons and discussions with the students. Previous guests have included Caitlin Moran, Richard Herring, Will Self, Rachel Riley, Patterson Hood and Nick Hornby.
There will be a limited number of opportunities for media accreditation for the event. For all enquiries contact Chloe Combi at cycombi@gmail.com or via the Write Club website at info@write-club.org.uk
